The Kodaly Method and What it means for Our Students

redwood coast children's chorus with director kathe lyth

The musical training of the Redwood Coast Children's Chorus is based on the Kodaly concept of musical education, a program of sequential activities in vocal music.  Skill in memorizing, analyzing, and reading music is founded on the study of sight-singing, sol-feggio ear training and vocal techniques.  It is based upon the belief that music is a universal language which must be consciously fostered as early as possible in a child's life, beginning with nursery rhymes and folk songs.  Students develop musical excellence through challenging repertoire from around the world and a variety of eras, while developing a sense of commitment and responsibility, cummunity awareness, and cultural literacy through music.
