RCCC Art Program

The RCCC is now expanding its philosophy in education and creativity to encompass the visual arts as well! We are offering unique workshops for children during the school year at Redwood Coast Montessori School, the RCCC's rehearsal site in Eureka.  The goal of these workshops is to create an opportunity for young budding artists to express themselves in a fun, creative, and nurturing environment while developing a skill set in a variety of fine art applications.  Using artist-grade materials, students will develop skills in a variety of media as they build upon an intuitive exploration of color, design, and composition.  Each workshop will take place over the course of three to four Saturdays for two-hour blocks of time.  Sessions for younger children will be focused on creative explorations and process, while older children will begin learning about and applying techniques as they explore more complex and conceptual ideas.  The goal of this program is to create a truly educational and enriching experience in the realm of the fine arts.  Students will emerge inspired and confident in themselves and their ability to create something truly unique and beautiful.

Notice:  Sessions are open to children throughout the community, not just members of the RCCC

Sessions for Younger Children (Ages 5-9)

Workshops for younger children are focused on working with new materials, learning about various art processes, and exploring individual creativity.  Classes are kept small to ensure individual attention can be given to each child. Emphasis is not placed on finishing any particular art piece, but rather on the process of exploring and creating with new materials, techniques, and styles in a fun, encouraging, and inspiring environment.

Sessions for Older Children (Ages 9 – 13)

Workshops for older children are focused on individual creative development through building an understanding of a variety of artistic styles and techniques.  Using artist-grade materials and tools, children will design, create, and discuss their ideas.  Children will be encouraged to fully explore their creativity and all within a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment.  Children will emerge inspired and confident in themselves and their ability to create something truly unique and beautiful.
